The Thomson Family Shiraz is produced from Henry Best’s original 1867 Shiraz plantings, and only available in exceptional years, on average about six times a decade. The vines are cropped at less than two tonnes per acre (four tonnes per hectare) and are then meticulously hand-harvested, selected and sorted. Thomson Family Shiraz was first made in 1992, one hundred years after the Thomson family settled in the area. It is produced predominantly from the fifteen rows of vines planted by Henry Best, recorded as “Hermitage” by Henry in his daily journal. 98 points James Halliday Wine Companion 2018
The Millers Burgundy vineyard, first planted in 1867, is made up of about 85% Pinot Meunier and the rest of Pinot Noir. This unique vineyard block is treated with meticulous care and in good vintages this block is made into a ‘single block’ wine. The grapes are handpicked and hand sorted, hand plunged in open vats and aged in French oak barrels.
Bin 0 is made to be an age worthy style and has been the undisputed icon of the Great Western shiraz style for many decades. It is internationally acclaimed as one of Australia’s great Shiraz wines.

If Great Western didn't grow such great Shiraz, it would probably be just as famous for its Cabernet. With age, they develop remarkable finesse and elegance. Great intense berry and leafy aromas.
Dolcetto was first planted in the Nursery Block at Best’s in the 1860’s, and all subsequent plantings at Best’s have come from cuttings of these original vines. It has long been a topic of conversation as why Henry Best chose to plant about 25% of the entire vineyard with what is, even today, a lesser known variety.
